A Hillsboro, Oregon man was arrested Sunday after a report from a concerned citizen that two of his children were locked in the trunk of his car for a good hour or so long trip down to Oregon coast, a good 60 or more miles away.
The man had locked his 12 and 13 year children in the car's trunk because with four children, his fiancee, and himself, his small four passenger automobile simply did not have enough room for the entire family for this day trip to the Oregon coast. The man did open a panel that allowed fresh air into the trunk area, however nows faces reckless endangerment charges.
Early automobiles once had a rumble seat in the trunk that provided extra safe room for two more passengers when needed, but the modern confined trunks of most automobiles are certainly far less than creature confort areas for transporting persons and offer serious risks of lack of ventilation and fresh air and could heat up dramaticly on a warm day causing a heat stroke to any passenger.
